Rocking the Daisies 2015

Composting at Rocking the DaisiesIt’s Rocking the Daisies 2015 coming up. This year – they are celebrating their 10th anniversary with an extra exciting lineup.

Rocking the Daisies have won awards for their eco focus over the years and run what we call a “Green Festival”. Their moto “play hard, tread lightly” filters into many different aspects of the festival. We love to see festivals taking responsibility for their environmental footprint and show our support in the form of a Green Festival discount offered to all stall holders.

Here are some of the reasons why Rocking the Daisies are so green. They actively encourage

Reducing Pollution

Air pollution is reduced through encouraging non-motorised transport, efficient management of vehicles and the avoidance of non-essential flights. They provide a lift share service, and sponsor tickets to people joining the Walking the Daisies and Cycling the Daisies – both very popular.

Eco Friendly Procurement Policies & Waste Minimisation

Providing food and drink create a significant part of the waste generated by a festival. In order to meet the environmental goal of festival, certain procurement and waste management policies are in place.

Stall holders are asked to favour goods that can be recycled or reused and to reduce excessive packaging. Reusable cutlery should be used where possible and any disposable items used must be biodegradable. RTD also asks that stall holders source local and seasonal products with a preference for socially and environmentally friendly goods.

With regard to waste management, everyone is required to use a three bin system, composting for all food waste and compostables, recycling and refuse. All compostable waste is composted on site at the Cloof Wine Estate.

Energy & Water Efficiency

Policies include guidance around encouraging the use of Sustainable Energy and minimising energy use. Water Policies include no bottled water to be sold on premises – instead water is available at water fountains. So don’t forget your reusable water bottle. We love the elimination of unnecessary plastic.

Rocking the Daisies Stall Holders

So – if you’re a RTD stall holder, we have some tips for you.
1. Remember to tell us you’re heading to RTD 2015 so we can discount your order with our full Green Events Discount.
2. Ask us for help if you are needing a guide on what to buy or how to minimise excessive packaging. We have some great ideas.
3. Unfortunately we don’t actually have stock onsite at the festival and we aren’t open over the weekend. We know from past experience that stall holders do run out of stock. Prepare to be busy and rather order more to be safe. Even if you don’t use it, you may be able to help a neighbour out… If you find yourself overloaded with stock after the festival, we are happy to accept returns on any unopened, undamaged items.
