Important info: What are sustainably managed forests?

When choosing, and using, paper and wooden products, it’s important to know that they’re made from responsibly sourced wood and wood fibre.

These can be obtained from sustainably managed forests, which focus on forest conservation and the well-being of local communities, together with timber.

Key practices of sustainable forestry include:

  • Protecting rivers, waterways and soils
  • Safeguarding biodiversity
  • Protecting forest species and their habitats
  • Engaging local communities and workers, and protecting their rights
  • Sustainably manage harvesting levels
  • Tracking supply chains
  • Monitoring social and environmental impacts of forest management

International sustainable forestry certification organisations work to ensure that global forests are protected and sustainably managed.

Sustainable Paper and Wooden Packaging Products

GREEN HOME’s paper products (like our Kraft Range) and wooden products (like our Wooden Cutlery) are made from paper and wood that has been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), or the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI).

We also use tree-free sources of paper where possible – like the sugarcane fibre used in our eco serviettes. And almost all of our paper products contain a percentage of recycled paper too.

Sustainable Forestry Certifications

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international non-profit organisation who promote global responsible forestry. Their certification system aims to ensure that forests are managed in a way that protects biodiversity and local communities and workers.

The Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) is a North America and Canadian non-profit. They use certification, education, conservation and community engagement to ensure the sustainability of the forests the oversee.

Humans have an ancient connection to forests and have used forest materials for a very long time. Through sustainable forestry practices, future generations can continue to do so for many years to come too.
