Two compartment take away boxes

This month’s product feature is on two compartment take away boxes, one of our most popular products. These take away boxes are made from plant based raw materials, in this case it’s Bagasse. Bagasse is a by product from the sugar cane industry – its whats left after the sugar cane has been pressed for its juice. It makes an attractive, natural coloured, paper like container which is heat, water and oil resistant, suitable for hot and cold food and freezer and microwave friendly.

Take away food boxes are often challenging to recycle. Recyclers will only accept them if they’ve been cleaned if at all. If they are thrown away containing food, they are considered contaminated and therefore unrecyclable. They end up in landfills along with any left over food they contain, where they last for generations. This happens in many situations where food on the go is served, at malls, festivals, markets and in canteens.

Take away boxes made from Bagasse will turn into compost when you add them to a compost heap.  This means that they can be thrown away along with any food waste and turned into a valuable resource. Even if they aren’t composted and do end up in a landfill, they will biodegrade into natural components and they will not last for generations, leaving a polluted environment for our children.

Making the switch to biodegradable take away boxes is as simple as changing your brand of toothpaste. In some cases, depending what you are switching from it can even be cheaper than paper and foil alternatives.  Use our GreenHome sleeve to show that a biodegradable box has been used or customise your take away boxes with your own brand.
