GreenHome Compostables at the Cape Carnival

The Cape Carnival on 14th March 2015 featured incredible processions along the fan walk and a tribute to the firefighting Cape Town hero’s.

Food was served by numerous vendors along the way and we were thrilled to find there were definitely options for those looking for something served plastic free.

This delicious meal was served on our compostable plates with our bamboo cocktail skewers.

The raw materials for these items are all plants, which are annually renewable. Compared to the alternative, petroleum, the base raw material for plastic, which is non renewable. Food packaging at large events gets thrown away “contaminated” with food scraps and cannot be recycled.

Composting food scraps and compostable packaging along with it would be a great way to reduce the amount of waste produced serving food at an event like the Cape Carnival.
