Committed to Compostables

GREEN HOME’s big hairy audacious goal is to make plant-based packaging the norm by 2030.

And then along came 2020. This year has been one helluva rollercoaster ride, especially within the food industry. Restaurants, events and catering companies have been amongst the worst affected, with severe lockdown restrictions on serving hot food, public gatherings, curfews, alcohol etc. If there’s an industry that has taken a huge financial knock as a result of covid – it’s the catering industry.

However, despite this, we’re seeing something incredible. We’re witnessing a commitment to compostables. Restaurants are either closed for business, or open with compostables. The option of going back to plastic … is not an option. The corona virus and lockdown are strengthening the awareness that we need to look after ourselves and our environment.

A simple fact is hitting home: what’s good for our planet is good for us. People are recognising that to build healthy lives and a healthy world we need to be committed to healthy choices. And when it comes to food, serving it in plant-based and renewable materials that have been sustainably sourced makes sense in a way that fossil-fuel based, non-biodegradable plastics never will.

The awareness that GREEN HOME has for 13 years worked towards, seems to be taking a firm grip. We might just reach our big hairy audacious goal sooner than we thought!
