GREEN HOME has launched a new range of wide PLA-lined paper bowls with fully compostable lids — a first for the South African market (and yes, we’re a little proud).
This low-carbon, fully compostable bowl-and-lid solution is designed for takeaway food and made entirely from renewable plant materials, giving meals on the move a lighter environmental footprint — while delivering excellent performance.

These bowls were designed for real kitchens, real caterers and real food.
As with all GREEN HOME products, the new paper bowls and lids have been carefully selected for usability, performance and environmental integrity. The range is built to handle the everyday demands of cafés, canteens, restaurants, events and catering operations — where heat, moisture, transport and presentation all matter (often at the same time).
By offering a single bowl system with interchangeable compostable lids, the range helps reduce complexity — fewer SKUs, fewer headaches — without compromising on functionality.
The bowls are made from responsibly sourced, certified paper and lined with plant-based PLA, delivering reliable, leak-resistant performance across a wide variety of meals, including all those flavourfull saucy and soupy dishes we all love.
Available in three practical sizes, the bowls are paired with a one-size-fits-all lid system, making ordering and stock management refreshingly simple.
Two compostable lid options are available to suit different needs:
- Clear PLA lids for cold and ambient foods
- Opaque CPLA lids for hot food
Both options fit securely across the full bowl range — easy peasy!
Why Plant-based Materials Matter
The materials used in this bowl system — paper, PLA and CPLA — are derived from renewable plant sources and have a lower carbon footprint than fossil fuel-based plastics.
By avoiding oil and gas extraction, refining and polymer processing, they help reduce the environmental impacts associated with conventional plastic production.
In short: less fossil fuel, more plants, same great food service performance. And, the bowls can be organically recycled (AKA composted) into healhty soil after use. They are also recyclable with paper streams, when the necessary machinery is available at recycling facilities.
The result is packaging that’s safe for people, soils and ecosystems — and tough enough for busy service environments.
