Celebrating Mandela Day at Yiza Ekhaya

We’ve been running a winter donations drive for our favourite soup kitchen, Yiza Ekhaya. We’d like to say a huge thank you to all the staff, clients and friends of GREEN HOME who generously donated.

Last week, on a wet and wintry Mandela Day on 18 July 2019, we drove to Khayelitsha to drop the goods off.

As always, Mama Mickey and the Kuyasa community welcomed us warmly with smiles and hugs. We arrived to the sound of singing, with the community gathered to pray at a special Mandela Day celebration.

Fortunately, the roof has recently been extended on the Hemp House, which is providing extra dry space for people to gather.

Inside the Hemp House, Mama Mickey and her team of volunteers had cooked up a special Mandela Day feast to share with the community and the Yiza Ekhaya children.
